Intelligent Power Module (IPM) board has been designed using FSBS5CH60 IC from Fairchild, which provides a fully-featured, high-performance inverter output stage for AC Induction, BLDC, and PMSM motors. These modules integrate optimized gate drive of the built-in IGBTs to minimize EMI and losses, while also providing multiple on-module protection features including under-voltage lockouts, over-current shutdown, and fault reporting. The built-in, high-speed HVIC requires only a single supply voltage and translates the incoming logic-level gate inputs to the high-voltage, high-current drive signals required to properly drive the module’s internal IGBTs. Separate negative IGBT terminals are connected to the shunt resistor to provide the current feedback to the micro-controller. This IPM module helps to develop lots of power applications and also can be used as H-Bridge for brushed DC motor. The module mainly helps to drive Hall sensor-based or encoder-based motors, it doesn’t support the FOC algorithm, FOC-based IPM board is under development and will be published soon.

The project presented here is a three-phase sinewave PWM driver for high-voltage brushless motors. The board is built using TB67B000AHG chip, which is a high-voltage IC capable of handling 600V. The TB67B000AHG has a 2-in-1 (MCP) structure of controller (sine-wave PWM / wide-angle conduction) and a high-voltage driver. The rotation speed of a DC brushless motor can be controlled directly by the speed control signal (analog voltage) by an onboard trimmer potentiometer or from a microcontroller. The board supports a 3-phase BLDC motor with Hall sensors. On Board Trimmer, the potentiometer helps users to control the speed of the brushless motor.

This BLDC motor driver board is equipped with a smart IFX007T half-bridge. The BLDC motor control project is capable to drive one BLDC motor. Alternatively, it can be used to drive one or two bi-directional DC motors (H-Bridge configuration, cascaded to support the second motor) or up to three uni-directional DC motors (half-bridge configuration). The implemented integrated IFX007T half-bridges can be controlled by a PWM via the IN Pin. Interfacing to a microcontroller or Arduino is easy by the integrated driver IC which features logic level inputs, diagnosis with current sense, slew rate adjustment, and dead time generation, etc. The three IFX007T half-bridges are also fully protected against over-temperature, under-voltage, overcurrent, and short circuit events. The project is capable of high-frequency PWM e.g., 30Khz. All inputs are logic level, current sense outputs are for diagnosis purposes, and slew rates are adjustable using R7, R8, R9. This is able to be used for fast and inexpensive prototyping of (BL)DC motor control, easy testing of half-and full-bridge motor control Status flag diagnosis with current sense capability, Over-temperature shut down with latch behavior and under-voltage shut down. It is advisable to use forced cool air to control the temperature of the IFX007 chip.

Driving a 3-phase brushless DC motor is very easy with this product. It is a simple and easy-to-build project that requires only a few external components. The circuit is based on AMT49400 IC which is an advanced 3-phase, Sensorless, brushless DC (BLDC) motor driver with integrated power MOSFETs. The chip includes the field-oriented control (FOC) algorithm which is fully integrated to achieve the best efficiency and acoustic noise performance. The motor speed is controlled by applying a duty cycle signal to the PWM input. Users may use Arduino, microcontroller, or discrete circuit to generate PWM for the speed controller. It is a hassle-free easy to use board, just connect the 3 phase brushless motor, connect the power supply and feed PWM to control the speed of the motor. This project is the best choice to drive a FAN motor, small pumps, and brushless toy motors, etc. The circuit also outputs FG speed output information which can be used for feedback. Chip also has a short circuit protection feature that prevents damage to the IC or motor. Any of these three conditions: phase to GND, phase to VBB, and phase to phase will trigger the OCP event, and the AMT49400 will stop supplying current to the motor immediately. The OCP can recover after a power cycle or PWM demand cycle. If the OCP restart mode (EEPROM setting) is “time”, the OCP can recover after 5 seconds.

This is a 3-Phase Inverter Driver project designed for Low Power AC Motor. The FSB50450AS chip is the heart of the project. A compact inverter project is ideal for small power motors such as fans and pumps. An H-bridge configuration can also be created for low-current high-voltage brushed DC motors. The Inverter project supports loads up to 1.5A. The DC power supply voltage is up to 400V DC. The project operates with 6 x PWM signals. Parameters for bootstrap circuit elements are dependent on the PWM algorithm. For 15 kHz switching frequency, Bootstrap capacitors C1, C2, and C3 value is 1uF. Resistor R1, R2, R3, R4, R6, R7 and capacitor C4, C5, C6, C7, C8, C9 prevent improper signal due to surge-noise. Over-current or fault detection circuit is created using comparator CN5 – LMV7239 and shunt resistor R5. The output of LMV7239 is normally high and goes low when an over-current condition occurs. So, the CS pin goes low when the current goes above the threshold level. ATS pin is provided to monitor the temperature of the IPM chip. Heatsink is a must for this IPM module. Adhesive material with high thermal conductivity, such as Loctite 384, can be used to fix the heat sink on the top surface of the chip. Refer to the heatsink installation diagram.

This is a 3-Phase Inverter Driver project designed for Small Power AC Motors. The project is built using FSB50550AT IPM chip. This compact and reliable inverter project is ideal for small power motors such as fans and pumps. An H-bridge configuration can also be created for low current high-voltage brushed DC motors. The Inverter board supports a load up to 2A. The DC power supply voltage is up to 400V DC. The project operates with 6 x PWM signals. Parameters for bootstrap circuit elements are dependent on the PWM algorithm. For 15 kHz switching frequency, Bootstrap capacitors C3, C4, and C5 value is 1uF. Resistor R4, R6, R7, R11, R15, R16 and capacitor C9, C10, C11, C12, C16, C17 prevent improper signal due to surge-noise. The logic supply is protected with a 20V Zener diode, which prevents surges under severe conditions. Comparator U2A provides low output when an overcurrent condition occurs, it measures the current across shunt resistor R13, and normal output is high. Comparator U2B is provided for over-temperature detection, the output of U2B is high when IPM temperature is below 80 degrees C, and goes low when the temperature reaches the threshold. A heatsink is a must for full load current, thus 2 mounting holes are provided throughout the PCB to mount the heatsink as shown in the Figure below. Silicone thermal compound, also called thermal grease, should be applied between the heat sink and the flat surface of the IPM to fill microscopic air gaps due to imperfect flatness that ultimately reduces the contact thermal resistance. The IPM module should be soldered first. Please take care of excessive torque that may bend the PCB.
